| 8/23/2008-Charlotte Harbor Challenge 2008 This year’s event is going to be held at Laishley Park in beautiful downtown Punta Gorda. In addition to the great draw of fishing, we are adding something new that everyone one is sure to love… Tasty Ribs! Local restaurants and amateurs will compete in the Ultimate Rib Challenge to see who has the best ribs in the area. The ribs will be available for all to enjoy in this finger-licking good competition. In addition to tasty food, we will have a kid’s area, booths with local vendors and other great activities. Join hundreds of thousands of volunteers September 15th for the International Coastal Cleanup. We have volunteers in all 55 U.S. States and territories and 75 countries. The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is the largest beach and waterway cleanup program with data collection in the world. Volunteers from around the globe and 55 U.S. States and territories participate each year—clearing tons of trash from coastlines, rivers and lakes. Take action to improve the health of our oceans and waterways—anyone can participate in the International Coastal Cleanup. 10/18/2008-Keep Charlotte Beautiful Think Green Golf Tournament 11/2008-Award Ceremony for Keep Charlotte Beautiful Calendar Art Contest Winners 11/22/2008-Charlotte Harbor Nature Festival The Ninth Annual Charlotte Harbor Nature Festival will be held Saturday, November 22, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Charlotte County Sports Complex located at 2300 El Jobean Rd/SR 776 in Port Charlotte. The Charlotte Harbor Nature Festival, a regional celebration, is a family-friendly event where people can learn about topics affecting the natural environment of southwest Florida. This includes our estuaries, native plants and animals, fossils, wildlife rehabilitation, water conservation, marine life and much, much more. This is accomplished through a wide variety of activities for both adults and children, which include guided walks in Tippecanoe Environmental Park, guest speaker presentations, hands-on activities, exhibits and vendors, music, a Children’s Discovery Zone and more. A committee of volunteers, who represent a diverse group of organizations, is dedicated to making this Festival exciting and informative. Admission and parking are both free.
