TBA-Organizational Meeting for the International Coastal Cleanup Supply pickup and organizational meeting at the Environmental Campus, 25550 Harbor View Road Port Charlotte 9/25/2010-International Coastal Cleanup 25th Anniversary Help clear the trash from our beaches and waterways! Join hundreds of thousands of volunteers September 14th for the International Coastal Cleanup. We have volunteers in all 43 U.S. States and District of Columbia and 104 countries and Locations(Islands). The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is the largest beach and waterway cleanup program with data collection in the world. Volunteers from around the globe and participate each year— clearing tons of trash from coastlines, rivers and lakes. The event will be held on November 12 and 13, 2010 at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center, 75 Taylor Street, Punta Gorda FL 33950. 11/20/2010-Charlotte Harbor Nature Festival The Ninth Annual Charlotte Harbor Nature Festival will be held Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Charlotte County Sports Complex located at 2300 El Jobean Rd/SR 776 in Port Charlotte. “Connecting with nature” is the message that will come to life at the Charlotte Harbor Nature Festival. The Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program is pleased to sponsor the tenth annual festival – a day to explore, learn and enjoy the natural environment of southwest Florida. Visitors can participate in activities geared toward all ages, including nature exhibits, local artists, live native animals, musicians, wagon rides and guided walks to the Tippecanoe Regional Park (if conditions permit). Children won’t want to leave the Discovery Zone, which is packed with games and activities. Children can learn about fish and fishing and then receive a free fishing pole! (Children ages 4 to 14 can participate in an educational program then receive a fishing equipment. Children must be able to cast a rod.) Guest speakers will cover water issues and native animals. Musicians will perform songs about the environment. Mote Marine Laboratory will bring their mobile exhibit with its touch tanks. Food and beverages can be purchased at the event. Festival organizers have again chosen to make this event free so that as many people as possible can enjoy it. http://chnep.org/Events/CHNF/CHNF.htm 3/05/2011-Great American Cleanup Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup, the nation's largest community improvement program, takes place annually from March 1 through May 31, involving an estimated 3 million volunteers and attendees. The hardworking volunteers donated more than 6.7 million hours in 2008 to clean, beautify and improve more than 17,000 communities during more than 30,000 events in all 50 states and beyond. Activities included beautifying parks and recreation areas, cleaning seashores and waterways, handling recycling collections, picking up litter, planting trees and flowers, and conducting educational programs and litter-free events. |
